Two men sought in armed robbery of Scottsdale jeweler

Two armed robbers are being sought in connection with a heist at a Scottsdale jewelry store Friday morning, authorities said.

Two men in dark-colored hooded sweatshirts - one armed with a gun, one with a hammer - robbed Robert C. Wesley Jewelers near Fifth Avenue and Marshall Way in downtown Scottsdale at 10:45 a.m., according to a police statement.

The man with the gun pointed it at two employees in the store, forcing them to get on the ground, while the man with the hammer smashed open glass cases and removed jewelry, the statement said.

They fled the store with an undisclosed amount of jewelry, including Rolex watches, and drove southbound on Marshall Way in a dark-colored Chevrolet Malibu or Impala.

Bob Wesley, owner of the store, told The Republic that the employees held at gunpoint were armed security guards who were forced to give up their weapons.

Wesley said nothing like this has happened in the 18 years he's had armed security at the store.
